Hempseed oil and Hemp as a whole is gaining more traction in modern alternative and even pharmacological applications and practices now. Headlines have crossed the globe about the commitment to provide education and access on things like Medical marijuana uses, but there is still a grey area of confusion between hemp and Marijuana. Yes, both are grouped under the cannabis class but are completely different in their designated benefits and applications.
Hemp not to be confused with Marijuana
After all, nothing in hempseed oil contributes to the Cannabinoid presence like that of THC. But the twist on the political aspect of the two being grouped together out of sheer confusion for so long has caused a great deal of weariness. The seeds from the hemp plant are not known for their psychoactive properties. What they are known for, however, is their amazing fatty acid presence among many applications, in fact, it’s believed hemp has over 25,000 various applications!
Hempseed oil is a rich source of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), which are present mainly as linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid. These two fatty acids are used by animals for good health, but they cannot synthesize them. Making the ingestion of them critical from our diet.
Content of Tocopherols
Tocopherols are molecules associated with Vitamin E function and activity throughout the body. These Tocopherols; and there are 4 types just for a fun fact; Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta. Tocopherols contribute to the support of and protection against:
- Risk of cardiovascular disease.
- Oxidative dis-ease states.
- Age-related Macular Degeneration.
Tocopherols act as powerful Anti-oxidants and prevent the oxidation of our unsaturated fatty acids.
Hempseed oil’s Composition of fatty acids
Hempseed oil when broken down into its individual fatty acid composition status was found to contain an abundance of:
- Linoleic (Omega 6) Acid.
- Alpha Linolenic (Omega 3) Acid.
- Oleic (Omega 9) Acid.
These 3 forms combined, form between 84.93 and 88.61% of the total fatty acid composition of hempseed oil which is incredible!
What about the Omega 3:6 Ratio!?
This oil showed to be consistent with the ideal ratio of Omega 3 to 6 of a 3:1-part ratio which exceeded many other vegetable oils composition statuses for having such an immaculate ratio content.
So, what does it do for you?
There are a fair few amazing aspects of Hempseed oil one as such is its effects on the brain. Cognitive health is one of the hugest assets that has been studied with the use of Hempseed oil. The brain is one big squishy, oily rich structure and supporting those oils with the good oils it needs is vital. Just like oil in your car is critical to make it run smoothly, except that as humans we don’t have a sump plug to just dump the old crappy oils, so we just have to begin putting in the good stuff and fixing up those ratios again, converting what we need for the functions vital to our survival.
